Spring, one of the most beautiful seasons of the year, comes after winter and before summer. The season comes around from late March to late June in the Northern hemisphere, and between late September to late December in the Southern hemisphere. It doesn’t matter where in the world you currently find yourself. Spring is always around the corner. It is one of those gifts that nature give us each year. Whilst every season has its own special characteristics , I have to confess I love spring – it is full of symbolism and it really does put a SPRING in your step!
Rebirth, renewal, growth and rejuvenation ! The start of something new.
I like to break each year into quarters. For me , it makes it easier to put my life into perspective. Instead of planning for the whole year in January – which can feel overwhelming and often leads to failures and unmet expectations and instead of reflecting over the whole year in December. I break it up into little bite sized chunks.
I love the idea of 4 quarters.
It gives me an opportunity to plan for 3 months and to reflect on the 3 months gone.
It give me a short term goal, which feels more SMART ( specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time related). It gives me an opportunity to reflect on what I am grateful for, what is working well and what I should continue doing.
It also give me an opportunity to look at what I wanted to achieve , but didn’t and why.
I find that I am more motivated and less demoralised if I didn’t achieve a goal , as it give me an opportunity to reflect ( before spending 12 months on something that might not have been worth the time and effort) and see how I can change my approach or even totally pivot and change my goal.
If I achieved my goals it gives me an opportunity 4 times a year to celebrate my little wins instead of just once a year. Who doesn’t like regular celebrations? It keep one happy and motivated.
Have you tried it? Why not give it a go and see if it works for you.
The first quarter of this year has been a time of planning and studying and preparing for my new quarter.
My spring.
I completed my studies as a foot health practitioner, met some amazing people along the way and managed to get experience in my new field.
Behind the scenes I have been working hard with the help of some amazing people ( special mention at the end of this blog) to get my website up and running. And we managed to plan a very long overdue trip to South Africa to go and see family and friends.
My new quarter will entail launching of my website and the ” birth” of me as a Foot Health Practitioner as I look to start treating patients on a much more regular basis.
Watch this space !!!
Desmond Tutu once wisely said that “there is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time.”
